Huiru Hu

Huiru Hu is a pianist who has played a variety of solo and chamber music throughout her musical career. At the age of 17, she made her solo debut in Hong Kong and Taiwan, China, performing Glinka's Nightingale and Beethoven's Sonata, winning the Gold Medal at the Hong Kong International Young Musicians Competition. In 2016, Ms. Hu Huiru collaborated with the Fuzhou University Choir in the 9th Cross-Strait Choral Festival and won first prize at the festival. She has given numerous chamber and solo concerts at venues such as the University of Central Oklahoma and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, performing works by Bach, Liszt, Shostakovich, and David Maslanka.

Ms. Hu constantly strives to expand her artistic boundaries by exploring new music, blurring genre lines, and going beyond the conventions of classical performance to connect with audiences. Dedicated to performing both new and traditional music, Ms. Hu has collaborated with several composers to present premieres of new works at UCO's Radke Hall, including compositions by Enzhe Zheng and Dr. Keith White. Additionally, Ms. Hu is passionate about innovative music education. She is a member of OMTA and MTNA. In an effort to reach a wider audience, she has performed in numerous non-traditional venues, from community centers and hospitals to street corners and outdoor movie theaters, and particularly enjoys working with children.

Ms. Hu is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Claremont Graduate University, where she studies with Jenny Soonjin Kim. Her former teachers have included Yizhe Hong, Dr. David Forbat, and Dr. Sallie Pollack. Huiru holds a Master's degree in both piano performance and collaborative piano from University of Central Oklahoma and undergraduate degree in piano performance from Fuzhou University.
